Windwalker
One of the few long adventure games I beat on my own with no help. And it's not all that long it's just I was so not used to the gameplay the world was small but seemed bigger. And unlike many other games, it felt like the time I put in earned the successful playthrough. A couple attribute of the game that were noteworthy to me, some of which I don't put up with today.
- XP farming - You gain XP by regular game experiences but you better farm more xp through fighting if you want to gain the potential levels listed in the manual.
- Overworld, dumps you into fighting
- At least the majority of the time you see your enemy before being dumped into a fight. On occasion you do suddenly get hit and fight mode is forced even though you never saw an enemy. Usually this has to do with the clunky scrolling views of the overworld I think. Or maybe ninjas, thieves and soldiers can hide and attack, not sure.
- Resource management - you get tired, you get hungry and your health points go down if you don't manage these things. It's fine but you aren't exactly making money when you're not fighting. And it's not like there are dropped treasures everywhere in this game. So resource come from fighting.
- Conversations that lead to highlighted mission cues.
- Time sensitive actions. Full moons and new moons certain things become available to engage with. But that means you're going to have to wait for those times during the month and I that means fighting and eating but more sleeping than anything.
External links and comments about the game:
- Available on MSDOS (ExoDOS!, Amiga, C64 and Apple II / IIgs
- Multi-disk so depending on version you might have to swap disks
- Saves your game as your name, so you may need to remember it
- Remembers your deaths - On Apple II was quite unforgiving
- Great graphics in fight scenes
- Fighting takes a while
