It's appealing to try to learn to code in order to create your own applications. There was a hacker news forum post where somebody mentioned what direction to go to set themselves up to launch projects even as a product designer. The advice inside was interesting. They recommended Ruby instead of something in the latest fad and mentioned it's scalability. They also mentioned it might be good to learn instead how to manage a team of programmers and that would be a good way to set yourself up merging the knowledge you already had.
